President Report
December 2011
Greetings to all,
CANN continues to be very active with progress, challenges and exciting accomplishments.
The 42nd AGM and Scientific Sessions held in Vancouver in June was indeed a very successful conference. Congratulations to the Scientific and Program Chairpersons and their committee members who worked so diligently to make this conference a success. Congratulations to all attendees who also helped make the conference a success.
Since that time, the CANN executive has been busy behind the scenes. Two conference calls have been held to discuss various issues, challenges, and initiatives. Melodie Mortensen resigned her Professional Practice Portfolio and most fortunately Nancy Thornton has agreed to take on this position.
Planning for the 2012 Meeting in Ottawa is well underway. The team in Ottawa is well organized. They are also working with CNSF for some coordination of events. Martha Stewart and her Montreal team began working on the 2013 meeting to be held in Montreal. One of the conference calls was with CNSF to coordinate both meetings being in the same venue but keeping the CANN Meeting as a separate entity.
CANN BOD has endorsed and agreed to provide financial support for printing and advertisement costs of a Canadian Neuroscience Nursing textbook. The textbook is being developed and written by advanced neuroscience nurses considered expert by peers at the national level of which Teri Green is the Editor. The textbook has been endorsed by the Canadian Nurses Association and The Krembil Neuroscience Program. We will now have a Canadian textbook addressing the needs of the Canadian neuroscience patients. Copies may be available at the mid-year meeting.
Planning for the Mid-Year Board of Directors Meeting at the end of January is well underway. Issues arising from the June BOD and the AGM will be addressed. Minutes of the Meeting will be available in February.
Wishing everyone a happy, healthy, and prosperous new year.
Respectfully
Deb Holtom
President, CANN
