British Columbia Report
November 2011
Greetings from beautiful British Columbia!
I want to start by thanking all of you who participated in the 42nd Annual CANN meeting held in Vancouver this past June. Whether you were an organizer, a presenter, a volunteer or just a registrant, you helped to make our national conference a huge success! Hats off to Cindy Hartley, who once again did a great job as the Program Chair and to Sue Kadyschuk who worked tirelessly as the Scientific Chair.
Holding the conference in Vancouver definitely helped to raise awareness of our Association. While our membership numbers vary at times, we are currently at 44 members… the largest chapter in the country.
We held our local AGM in September and have planned out our year of education which will include, not only monthly presentations at various local hospitals, but also a Spring Seminar in April on CNS Infections.
As in past years, our chapter will be fundraising and assisting with sponsoring active members to attend the National Conference in Ottawa. In addition, we will also be committing funds to pay for a full early Conference Registration to Ottawa for one lucky B.C. CANN member who has a successful abstract submission. This will become a yearly commitment and will be open to all B.C. CANN members including those that live outside the Lower Mainland and cannot participate in all CANN activities. We will also be ear-marking funds this year to assist up to five B.C. CANN members in attending the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses Annual Conference being held in neighbouring Seattle in April 2012.
Respectfully submitted,
Brenda MacLeod
B.C. CANN Councillor
